Dear Fellow Rotarians,
Club 24 has always been a beacon of distinction among Utah’s Rotary clubs. In our storied past, while others measured their strength in tens or dozens, the Salt Lake Downtown Club stood tall, counting members by the hundreds—over 400 at our peak! What set us apart? Yes, service has always been our heartbeat, but it was paired with something equally powerful: influence. We were a gathering place for visionaries, leaders, and changemakers.
Today, with 140 dedicated members, we remain a vibrant community. Yet, as we’ve welcomed all with open arms, we’ve seen some of that unique spark—the presence of Utah’s movers and shakers—dim over time. But I believe this is not the end of our story; it’s the beginning of a bold new chapter.
Our Board of Directors recently took an exciting step toward reigniting our legacy, redefining our target membership as “Business and Community Leaders.” Why? Because we have the chance to reclaim what made Club 24 extraordinary: a place where influence and service intertwine to create something truly remarkable.
I turned to a popular artificial intelligence tool to explore what draws leaders to groups like ours. The answer was clear and inspiring: they seek connection—spaces where they can stand shoulder-to-shoulder with peers, other executives navigating the same challenges, dreaming the same big dreams. I’ve experienced this myself as a member of Vistage, an exclusive CEO group costing $20,000 a year. It’s a powerful reminder that leaders thrive in rooms filled with other leaders.
Club 24’s soul will always be service—that’s our unshakable foundation. But imagine what we could achieve by pairing that with a renewed focus on serving the needs of Utah’s top business and community leaders! There are countless mastermind groups and industry organizations out there, but the Salt Lake Downtown Club can be more—a place where service meets leadership, where impact meets inspiration.
For too long, we’ve drifted toward being just another Rotary club. I say we’re destined for more. Let’s rise together, embracing elevated membership standards that attract “Business and Community Leaders.” Picture a future where Club 24 once again pulses with the energy of Utah’s most influential minds, united in service and purpose.
Join me in this journey to restore our club’s greatness—not just for the sake of tradition, but for the incredible impact we can have on our community and beyond. The best days of Club 24 are not behind us—they’re ahead, waiting for us to build them together.
With optimism and enthusiasm,
Spencer Ferguson President Rotary Club of Salt Lake City
