TOGETHER WE RISE - A MURAL WALK
Nine years ago, the city of South Salt Lake started Mural Fest in an effort to revitalize the city’s industrial area. Their vision was to create art murals on the side of business buildings to engage the community through art. The first couple of years were a challenge as business owners grappled with the concept of ‘art’ vs ‘graffiti’. Five building owners agreed to collaborate with artists to allow a mural to be painted on their building’s wall. Fast forward to today, and you will find that the city has blossomed into an outdoor gallery of 90 exciting murals
Through the Pop-Up Committee, our Rotarians enjoyed a Saturday walk while learning how artists are selected, the techniques they use to paint large-scale works, and fun facts about key muralists. ‘Together We Rise’ was created with the images suggested by students from Woodrow Wilson Elementary School. The mural required a lot of detail work from both spray paint, and small brushes on the detailing.

OLIVE OIL TASTING
Did you know that olive oil is one of nature’s greatest superfoods? Kun Covington, an Olive Oil Sommelier, shared where it comes from, how it is produced, and how to select and store the right variety at home. A blind taste test comparing premium, high-quality oils with ones found at your local grocery store educated the group in making some good choices.
A special thanks to David Waldman and Bryn Morris for inviting us into their home for this special event. Following Kun’s presentation, a light dinner was enjoyed by the group. According to our Rotary test, we built better friendships and certainly had fun!
FALL DINE AROUND
Thanks to home hosts Scott Leckman, Franci Gillmor, Jan Stucki, Scott Rosenbush and Duane Millard for hosting dinner at their homes during the last week of October. Members of the club gathered around tables to enjoy a great meal, learn more about each other and build greater understanding of the many passionate and dedicated members of the club. Our goal is to host two Dine Arounds a year.
